The Words
At times we all need someone,
Sometimes not even that.
A thing that understands us:
A plant, a car, a cat.
We might feel we need words
Of comfort or of wit,
A reassuring chinwag
When our worlds seem full of shit.
We’re striving for connection,
The Words sometimes don’t matter.
We might not know the reason
Why we’re yearning for a natter.
Words are seldom everything,
Some words come out by chance.
Sometimes more is spoken
By a single sideways glance.
What matters is to find it,
That feeling of connection.
It doesn’t need good grammar,
Diction, accent or inflection.
The Words can say a lot,
But some can leave us in a muddle.
Sometimes we could say so much more
By just offering a cuddle.
